What's the catch?
Apr. 10th, 2008 08:34 pmCan anyone see the catch with this package?
Seems cheaper than our current, offers more bandwidth and static IP (Which is what we need for a server we run)
Erm. So:

Date: 2008-04-11 08:26 pm (UTC)They're a part of O2 from the look of it. They're ADSL2+ which means they have to be LLU which is why they're limited in the exchanges they offer - we're on the list however. It does mean they're using their own equipment arather than BT's though, make of that what you will.
Depending on our line condition we should be able to recieve some portion of the 24 meg, our line has had problems in the past however so we may find they we'll get more disconnects if we try to push it faster.
Thrings they don't mention - contention, we're currently on 20:1 but LLU works differently and they could cnotend us at any ratio they feel like. AUP - they state they'll take action against "unreasonable" transfer amounts, we know how Griffin act - less than 50Gb per month or limited throughput during business hours.
Finally, they just feel tackier. I like the professional image that Griffin's website presents. This all pink and wishywashy and makes me distrust their technical competence. But that'sa purely arbitary feeling.

Date: 2008-04-13 02:38 pm (UTC)The traditional cotention that you get quoted is related to the number of users sharing a Virutal Path through BT's ATM network.
Which LLU doesn't touch at all.
Which is why their packages don't talk about 20:1 and 50:1 or whatever contention. It's just not there and works in a completely different way.
