Jazz @ the Bear
Jul. 9th, 2009 09:19 pmTonight is live Jazz at the Bear.
The Jazz is good
The food was fairly good.
The service is poor - 45minutes to get food is too long.
Not knowing your drinks menu is disappointing (how to make a cocktail on it can perhaps be forgiven, but staring blankly at the person ordering it as if they are stupid less so)
However not having the rum said cocktail requires, and then "err - we have some Woods. Is that a dark rum?" just sort of scores a bit of a "fail".

Nettle cloth - step 1
Jul. 6th, 2009 12:22 pmWell, my initial nettle gathering foray is done - Tall and ripe ones seem to uproot quite easily. I tried rudimentary quality control by height (aimed for about shoulder height) and whether they broke when being lifted about mid-stem. I figure the better candidates will be tall and strong.
So I have a batch now - my initial cunning plan of a tesco "green" carrier bag... well, as you can see - they didn't fit :)
They are now in the back garden, lightly covered by a tarpaulin to dry.

I think next time will need to be tarp + string to tie the nettle bundle(s) - that should allow for easier carrying.

Next is the Windmill. where we are now firmly ensconced. Gained a Stuuuu and a Pauli Dangerous.
Inspire recommends Delerium Tremens to someone who doesn't know their beers. This amuses me.
Windmill are disappointing on their food, but a sandwich will do.
Some splitters are off to Old Orleans, because they prefer the cocktails. We will catch them up.

There is a heated debate going on in our office at the moment. The scenario is this:
There is a roundabout near work. A dual carriageway leads up to it. The rush hour traffic is pretty much all turning left, and queuing in the left lane.
Is overtaking in the right lane, and going all the way around the roundabout to skip the traffic queue innovative and efficient, or is it being rude and annoying?

Walked to work and back yesterday. 4.1miles each way. I don't think I've actually walked that far in a day for _quite_ some time. Took a bit under an hour and a half, and I ended up on 20k steps for the day (usefully over the 11k target).
Not as bad as I thought, although time consuming.
Given how awful the parking is here, I might have to do it more often.

Walking in the rain
May. 18th, 2009 10:49 amI rather like walking in the rain. Having the right combination of clothes to keep warm and dry, and most especially a hat, because I dislike the rain on my face stops it being inconvenient.
But from there, I like the way the streets clear. I like the sound of the rain, and most especially that rich and fresh smell that comes from all the plants. Especially the trees - the scent that just seems to be a joyous announcement of life. And the water washing away some of the day to day grime and grit.
At least, up until a passing bus drives rapidly though a puddle and soaks you. It quickly stops being so pleasant when you get cold and wet.
