Well, insurance time again.
Depressingly it seems I'm not going to be below £1000.
Almost certainly as a result of the loss of no-claim from an accident, but that's how it goes. Best quote so far is from Admiral at £1012 and some change.

Anyone got good insurance suggestions?

I'm over in America, but it sure sounds like insurance there is just as bad as ours is here! So sorry to hear that yours is just as insane!

Please, please, please tell me that's fully comp. If so, that starts to look vaguely the going rate, for your car / loss of no-claims.... If not, you're being ripped off horribly!

About the only thing to do is get hold of a list of various insurance places, and give them a ring round see what they quote you...

That _is_ FC. But since I'm 25 the difference between FC and TPFT is not an awful lot.

The real problem here, is that I wiped out my NCB when I had a prang...

Insurance companies are all a bunch of thieving gits.
The real difference being that you _have_ to be insured in the UK in order to drive...

Yeah, it is quite worrying that your insurance is over double mine, as a 22yo driver on FC with 6 pts on my licence.

Then again, I guess that's the advantage of 5 yrs NCB with guaranteed NC.

Yeah, it's what? A £1000 fine plus points on your license for driving without insurance?

Yup. Get a proper car, with a carbourettor and points that doesn't cost you road tax. Then join the owner's club for said car, then go to Footman James and get cheap classic car insurance. ;-)

Failing that, try Footman James anyway if you haven't, I've found them quite good.

If it were only the fine that was the risk, then it'd probably be worth it.

I mean, any claim I make is going to have to be over £600 for me to even think about making it, between loss of NCB again, and policy excess again.

(mutter, insurance crooks)

That is seriously painful. I remember when I had an accident and lost my no claims bonus when I was 25ish in the mid 90's. It went up to £500 odd.

The shock comes from each successive year as the amount slightly decreased. 10% in Year 2 £450, 20% in Year 2 £400ish, you end up paying far more in the long run.

Yeah, well basically last year I ended up paying £600 or so. Which was vaguely inconvenient....

It really isn't getting any cheaper to be a driver.

Hmm, go find an Aston, drive that under classic insurance? Yeah, I like that idea...
