Lotus notes is an email and 'groupware' system.
It's quite good at it, and does calendary things, and emaily things, and collaboration.

What it is not, though, is a database. If you are wanting to do data storage, manipulation, exports, imports and concurrent access, what you want is Oracle. Or at a pinch, MS SQL Server.

If I'm stuck with having to manually do data entry to move information from one notes "database" to another again, I will have to go and kill kitttens.

Please. Think of the kittens. Use email clients for email, and databases for databases.

You think you have problems? The company I work for has based all of its 'databases' bar the Finance one (which is based on Oracle with a rubbish front end accessed through Citrix) on Lotus Notes. Oh how I cried. I used to work with Access and thought that was irritating. Now I would kill for an Access database. :(

Yes, this is exactly the problem I have.
Irritatingly we _do_ have database servers, but we have a lot more people who think Lotus notes with a bit of bodging is better.

You don't work for WCC as well, do you? Either way, I share your pain...

Heartily agreed.

When I worked for Marconi Services (god rest its broken soul) they loaded the management system procedures on to LN. It was pants to administrate so they swapped to Windchill Product Data Management. That didn't work terribly well either.

If our Lotus Notes and our Citrex are standard - they SUCK!!!

17 Housing Associatins on at least 6 platforms...

Access would be the best if the Housing Associations in question EVER bothered updating tenants details on them...

Access isn't a 'real' database either, but it is at least far superior to bloated email clients.
