I've just had a most offensive letter from our estate agents. Pretty much entirely out of the blue.
It says (roughly):
Your boiler inspection is due.
An engineer has been booked for 12:00 to 17:00 on Thursday.
If you break the appointment (rather than rearrange), we'll fine you £25.

This offends me.

I think I'm going to have to phone them tomorrow and abuse them.

I think, actually, I'll have to send them a letter back saying almost exactly the same thing. (After all, I'm the one who has to book holiday. The fact that I already have is entirely moot).

What? You're going to send them a letter saying you're going to come round and inspect their boiler?

I had a similar letter at our last house

I rang them up and told them in no uncertain terms that a) they had to give me a decent amount of notice b) I was extremely busy at work and couldn't afford to take the time off c) even if I could, I didn't see why I should waste holiday d) they could come on Saturday or Sunday or after 6.30 p.m. weekdays and e) if they tried to let themselves in with their set of keys while I was at work I would not be liable for any damage caused to any member of their staff by my 6 stone German Shepherd dog.

They arranged for their gas man to come round one evening.

Tell them to bog off, mate
