Today is Friday.
That makes it 'Poets' day.
I think the venue I shall be visiting will be the Beer Engine, this evening. I might even walk, given I actually can (but might just wuss out and taxi, because it cuts into my EVE time).

And a SINergy weekend no less. Last session of the year, which promises to be interesting. And also most probably my last reffing. Various reasons, but basically have just run dry on inspiration and enthusiasm. Whether I will keep attending in a non-ref sort of way in the new year, I'm not entirely sure.

It also means we have the marvelous [livejournal.com profile] zaitan inbound, but it would seem probably not until Saturday.

Why is it that it's always _so much_ easier to criticise, to complain, and to point out faults, than it is to actually fix the problem?

That strikes me as a fundamental problem with the world. That those that can, do, but those that can't feel the need to smash, complain, and otherwise degrade the whole thing.

Well, they do say that before trying to criticise someone you should first walk a mile in their shoes. And not just because then you're a mile away, and you've got their shoes.

I suspect I'm as bad at that as the next person. After all, it's easy to give opinions, and much harder to _actually do_ something.

Perhaps that's something that I shall try next year. Each time I catch myself doing something along those lines, to actually stop, think for a moment, and see if I can't do it better. And if I can't, proceed to STFU and let those that can, do.

Serenity Handpuppet Show

(Might just contain some spoilers, but if you've not been to see it yet, then you obviously don't care enough :))

Went to see The Libertine last night.

Wasn't what I expected. Yet again, Johnny Depp shows off his acting ability. The film is a mix of frivolous and dark, and I think has to have the best 'introduction' I've seen in quite some time. Seemed a little disjoint in places, but never the less, fairly immersive.

It definitely gets a mention for one of the most ... interesting ... opening sequences I've seen. It also mentions that it 'contains strong language'. It's not joking, but it's not especially gratuitious. (After all, one of the 'motivations' of the lead character is debauchery, at least initially).

More art than action, but nevertheless a well wrought film.

I've just had a most offensive letter from our estate agents. Pretty much entirely out of the blue.
It says (roughly):
Your boiler inspection is due.
An engineer has been booked for 12:00 to 17:00 on Thursday.
If you break the appointment (rather than rearrange), we'll fine you £25.

This offends me.

I think I'm going to have to phone them tomorrow and abuse them.

I think, actually, I'll have to send them a letter back saying almost exactly the same thing. (After all, I'm the one who has to book holiday. The fact that I already have is entirely moot).
