Are there really so many people who actually give much of a toss about fox hunting?

Seriously, I mean the amount of coverage and political wangling over this one issue, I'd say is probably more than that over the war in Iraq.

Now don't get me wrong, killing a cute fluffy-wuffy fox is a bit nasty. But I don't really think it justifies the level of conniving, policting etc. we've seen.

I have my suspicions that it's been used as a 'political tool'. Actually, I suspect it's being used as a smoke screen to slip through nastier bits of legislation.

And incidentally, I heard a politician whinging on the radio that 'we offered a compromise, but the Lords won't accept that'. In my opinion "It's still banned, but we'll let you have a little more time" isn't much of a compromise...

I actually agree with the pro-hunt view of 'if it looked like a rat would there be so much fuss?' But at the same time I do think it should be banned. 'cause it is cruel.

However, I /don't/ agree with how either side is going about it. :/

Killing a cute fluffy-wuffy fox isn't something I have a problem with but having it torn to bits by a pack of hounds for fun is a little OTT. There is no need to hunt with hounds any more when we have such lovely sniper rifles.

*imagines TYA running around the uni with a pack of hounds shouting 'here rodents come and get it!!*

I can't see what the problem the hunts have with chasing a scented rag is? They can always make a dummie of a fox with fake blood in if they want to see something killed!

This though is definatly a smoke screen from parliment, what for other smaller items of news on the day this goes through. They will be the interesting bits.

The problem with them hunting "scented rags" is that the hunts love breaking the rules as it is. While national park land is only entrusted to farmers (yadda yadda) they have the right to ban hunts from their fields. Thing is, most hunts that get told "I don't want you taking the hunt across my fields" couldn't give a crap when the fox decides to run that way. Change it to a scented rag and you'll probably still get the same problem.

No, I was genuinely interested to see if anyone gave much of a toss about foxhunting.
