Renaming a SUN machine
Oct. 14th, 2004 05:15 pmWhen changing the hostname on a Sun, there are 8 files that use or define it's hostname
Amend each, and reboot, and you're done.
Alternatively, you _can_ modify online, however, it's always good when making a notable modification to reboot to check for typos.
It's worth remembering though, that certain apps 'remember' the hostname eg. Oracle.
(sigh, another 350 day uptime reset)
/etc/hosts /etc/nodename /etc/hostname.<xxn> (interface card eg: ce0) /etc/net/ticls/hosts /etc/net/ticots/hosts /etc/net/ticotsord/hosts /var/crash/<hostname> (directory needs renaming) /etc/dumpadm.conf
Amend each, and reboot, and you're done.
