Sinergy this month
Jan. 19th, 2004 04:38 pmHow many people do we have going to SINergy this month? I have a feeling that we're not going to have enough transport if it's just Paul and myself driving.
Who's planning to go to SINergy, from Coventry, and is going to need transport? (If you know of someone, that's definitely going, who's not likely to post here, please give them a prod, this includes e.g. Richard)
Edit: But if I am driving, I'm going to want a contribution of about £3 or a drink or two towards the cost of driving from my passengers
Edit: Snipped some needless whinging.

Date: 2004-01-19 02:21 pm (UTC)Anyway, possibly require a lift for me, Clare, and Huw (and maybe Robin since he said something about not wanting to drive when I asked him just now, but that said probably tuff on him).
If petrol money is an issue I can try to dig out some cash. Taking public transport isn't really an option though. Getting out is easy if cramped but getting back leaving after about ten ends up with you stuck in Birmingham until 6 in the morning.

Date: 2004-01-19 02:38 pm (UTC)Actually, I wonder if there's cheapy sleeping places in notts, like B&Bs or whatever. (shrugs)
I'm not amazingly keen on driving myself, since as people may have noticed, I like beer. Lots. But, oh well.

Date: 2004-01-19 03:04 pm (UTC)Shrug. Let's sort out the list of who's going, then work out if we're short on car spaces...
Let's see.
Me
Adam
Jude
Paul T
Ed
Kev(?)
Huw
Clare
Tristan
Richard
Dave
Robin(?)
Laura(?)
Anyone else I've missed?
That's potentially 12 people anyway, which is 3 cars as a minimum.

Date: 2004-01-20 02:55 am (UTC)Equally, I can't remember of a time since I got my car when I've gone to a SINergy session & not driven. So the "If you don't want to drive you don't go" arguement for drivers doesn't wash, you can't have it apply to some drivers & not others.
I'll post up more what's happening with me later on. Needless to say, it's all rather Fucked Up, and I'm not a happy bunny.

Date: 2004-01-20 03:09 am (UTC)Hmm looks like someone's having a bad day.
I don't see it applying to some drivers and not others. "If you don't want to drive you don't go" is bollocks, for the simple reason that there's only a few people driving, and _all_ it would take is to ask/persuade someone else who is driving to take you.
You don't want to always drive, I don't want to always drive. Great. I always figured it worked along the lines of if you're driving you have veto over who you transport. If you can find someone to transport you then you don't have to find a way to get there.
No one's _making_ you drive. Personally I dislike it, because a) I can't get beer, b) I have to drive _back_ at sod all time in the morning, c) I don't like being treated as a convenience, d) I don't see why I should be paying for fuel, the £10/day or so for owning a car _and_ the time spent chauffering just to make someone elses life easier.
But I do want to go to sinergy, and finding a space in someone else's car is not often on the cards. So I do drive, and in the past I've transported other people. (Although it might save me a few quid of fuel if I didn't bother)
Maybe a mass driver strike and make everyone find their own way there is the way to go? Or perhaps have those who do drive take turns to give the others a lift to sinergy and back, and bugger all these freeloading bastards - make them find their own way there and back.

Date: 2004-01-20 03:17 am (UTC)I usually try and contribute in some way - Paul H usually demands a few quid of people, and I tend to buy Paul T drinks at the Sal/NA when I go up with them.
If you don't want freeloaders, ask people to contribute a couple of quid, instead of just complaining that they don't - most of them will, I'm sure. :p

Date: 2004-01-20 03:51 am (UTC)I'm grumpy at the moment, about anything to do with money, bills and generally being taken advantage of.
This doesn't specifically apply to SINergy transportees, it's just more in general. (Some may know why, there are reasons for it though)
I seem to recall I did request contributions for last session, to no avail. Maybe I just got unlucky. Maybe I'm too much of the opinion that I shouldn't have to _remind_ people.
(repost cos it's my journal)

Date: 2004-01-20 10:20 am (UTC)Definately looks like I'm not going to going to SINergy though, so that settles that one.
As an aside, I never ask people for a contribution. Why? Because a) I'm going there anyway, and b) Then I'm doing them a favor, not a service. They've got no grounds to moan about my timing, any mucking them around I do, and I set the timetable. Not saying "that's how things should be" or anything, just giving people my take on it...
It's one of the reasons I got immensly pissed of with Tom Fraser after giving him a lift to the gathering & back. No thanks, no drink / petrol money, and he whined when I wasn't keeping exactly to his timetable. Grrrr.....

Date: 2004-01-20 12:17 pm (UTC)'s not like you're charging taxi rates or anything ;p. Actually, I sorta reckon it's a manners thing.
If someone does moan about doing them a favour, I reckon you're quite entitled to invite them to get out and walk...

Date: 2004-01-21 12:39 am (UTC)It's looking like we're going to be hoping that Paul T is driving, because we have _way_ more than 2 car loads, and rapidly approaching the limit of 3...
(Which is good, in a way, but we need more drivers)
