Yes. If the skin is broken, by stretching or bedsores, it will grow around the threads of the fabric. It's the same as what happens to burns victims or the donor site of a skin graft if the bandages aren't changed very frequently. Living in dirty conditions will make it happen faster, because there's more chemical irritation to weaken the skin.
What a really nasty thought. I mean, I know we've used the metaphor 'merging with the sofa' when someone's being frighteningly lazy, but I never really imagined that it was _actually possible_.
