Weekend mayhem.
Jul. 6th, 2004 10:12 amWell, I kinda knew on Wednesday it'd be a long weekend in both senses of the phrase.
Moving house is mostly done. In the sense that stuff has been shifted, and lawn and tidying has been done at Eastcotes.
Thursday was moving things. Mostly mine.
If am currently in possession of anything of yours, then now'd be a really good time to 'remind' me so I can set it aside as I'm unpacking.
(I've a stack of books belonging to
ehrine and I think that's about it but...)
Thankfully I had my sister to assist. It really does make a big difference having two people - mostly cos if I was doing it meself I'd probably be doing last minute LJ updates, email checking, etc. etc.
It was worth the price of a meal at the Bear (which incidentally is as good as ever).
Still haven't sorted mail redirection, since I found over the weekend that whilst a driving license _is_ acceptable ID, they need the counterpart. Which is packed (somewhere) as is my passport. Oh well, it's not like I'm unable to make contact with the current denizens of 177 Eastcotes.
Neighbour on 1 side is a nurse, and seems quite nice. Neighbour on the other side, the first contact I had was 'can you move your car please, so I can park my tank in front of your house'. It's so very true what they say about first impressions. I think I might have to go and say 'hello' when I have an opportunity, because ... well talking to the neighbours now will probably offset a lot of grief in a few months time. Oh and the next neighbour along also had a similar sort of a moan about access to in front of his house. I'd somewhat naively assumed that since it was 'on street' carparking, and because I am now a resident, it'd be ok for me to park along there.
I mean, it's not like I'm going to try and 'park in front of your house' when I've other options is it? (like park in front of mine). And it's not like I drive a really huge car, or we as a household have more than one...
Unfortunately the neighbour at 74b my 2 minute first impression screams 'mummy who drives fscking huge range rover, has 12 kids, and a sense of divine entitlement because she couldn't keep her legs shut. Who couldn't be arsed to be say hello, but could be arse to whinge about me being in 'her' spot rather than park 2 metres away on the other side of the road, or a bit further along'.
I suspect this is probably incorrect. I think I'll continue to fume about it for a bit. And then maybe make an inquiry about how I go about reserving parking space.
But anyway, I'm mostly moved, but still have furniture to assemble (and wait for delivery of the rest), a washing machine to collect and install tonight, and lots and lots of unpacking of stuff.
Saturday was a Stag do for
mavnn. Habibi was really good. It's Iranian for anyone who's had
lostdreamer666's rather vague 'Ethnic, with vegetables' description.
Surfers was pretty good. Little disappointed that they didn't manage to find the barrel of Hooky, but it did well enough. Hopefully Silvia wasn't too put out by the ... shall we say aftermath of the last 'official' night of freedom.
SINergy was a bit of a killer - zero prep time + weekend of moving meant that I was rather much 'winging it'. Seemed to work though, although maybe I was getting just a little surreal with the tankerload of glucose syrup over the carpark.
I will say in my defence, that it started off as a tanker in the carpark, and it was PC action that kinda drove it into the wall, and opened the valves at the back.
Music was good, thanks to
mrph although having Rammstein's Engel playing whilst Serena was doing a 'I'm a messiah' trip on the dance floor was deeply sick.
Lots of messianic glee for session. Mr Beard has a really perverse sense of humour, although the refs take no credit for Lance Tyrell being declared a heretic by Serena, and thus having cultists with assault rifles invading the club to 'dispose' of him. (with the remarkably predicable result).
I must admit though, I'm impressed at the number of people who were interested in 'very experimental' cutting edge tech, which'll be installed immediately...
We have had a best ever verdict, which is always gratifying. Although we're still a little low on turnout (have to have a word with Mr Beard, and see how we're doing on that front)
Amber monday was gooood. Lots of mayhem, a random massacre of mooks in Eregnor, and Uther picking up Plot by the fuckload by wandering around the Courts of Chaos. Still don't get why everyone's suspicious of Ramius mind you, he's really quite an innocent naive sort... (Hmm, I think I'll have to do more diary stuff, or perhaps sorcery waffling).
Got to try two new types of coffee 'Old Brown Java' - Java coffee, that's 'matured' for a year and 'Sumatra Mandheling' which is a medium roast, but different in character to the 'other' Sumatran coffee that's more common.
They also have 'Jamaican Blue Mountain' coffee which is one I've heard really good things about. Although at £79.50 per kilo, is should hope so. (The place will do it by the cup, at a £5 where most are in the £1-£2 range). It grows at 6000ft. on 'Blue Mountain' in Jamiaca. And that's the only place.
But I will have some, but it may have to wait until next payday, and might only be 100g or so.
Getting in to work 973 emails waiting. One said (paraphrased ;p) that 'you know that upgrade we planned for July 10th, that we required you in for. Well, we've moved it to the 17th instead'.
No. Sorry. Other plans.
Got beer festival in Hampshire. Incidentally, anyone interested? Real ales and hogroast. 16th/17th/18th of July. Can provide some accomodation, or worst case there's camping space at the pub... And probably car space, because ... well I'll be going anyway. Hopefully heading off 'early ish' on the Friday afternoon. (eg. as soon as I get out of work, and back to Cov)
(Which sadly means I'm probably not going to be 'softing this month either. Sigh, such a busy life)
But I digress. I'm prepared to be co-operative with 'the needs of the business'. But if you want to do scheduled maintenance, then it's at MY convenience, not yours. Cos I don't give a shite if you're paying me overtime, I work for a living, not live for a working. 'things going horribly wrong' are a different matter, but there's a limit...
Oh, and I've got someone who has a helpdesk call open. That he's assigned to _himself_ but basically is something I've got to do. Now I'm suspecting there's a 'how many calls have you dealt with' thing going on up there. And so there's a certain amount of 'assign it to me, but get someone else to do the work' and 'grab easy looking calls so I can improve my stats' going on.
I'm considering how long I'll sit on it...
(hmm, bit long that. Time for a spot of snippetry I think)
