Are you adrift in the world? Many are. In a world where 'what you do' is an important aspect of who you are, not being sure can be difficult.

I see a lot of people doing things that they're not happy doing. Mostly temping, or 'make work'. The problem not so much one of lack of skills, but of lack of direction.

You see, life is a journey. A set of steps through life. Right at the start, all the paths are open. Gradually they close.
Sometimes you will reach your destination. Other times you won't. The important part is the journey, the friends you make and the people you meet on the way.
Sometimes you'll get there. And you'll have time to rest for a bit. But then it's time to pick a new destination and start your journey again.
You don't even have to stick with the same destination. You can change your mind. But don't let indecision lead you to inaction. It is better to press forward and change your path than it is to sit and wait.

Your decision is an important one. Not one to be made overnight. But it's also not one to be ignored or avoided.

So stop and ask yourself: What do you want to do?
Where do you want to be in 40 years time?
What about 10 years?
What about 5?
And what about in 1?

If the answer is 'Nothing' then I pity you.

If the answer is "I don't know" then that's ok.
It's not an easy choice.

But it's one that has to be made sooner or later, or your life is wasted.
Even if it's just a choice to find someone special, settle down and have a family.
There's never a wrong choice. It's your decision to make.

It's worth stopping for a moment, and thinking what you like doing. And then consider what you are good at doing. It's not just a question of technical skills, interpersonal skills are as important in almost everything.

And then, of course, when you think you have decided, then comes the hard part. Actually doing it. It's easy to leave off, because it's not so bad where you are, or because you're not really sure. But that doesn't actually get you anywhere. If you can honestly answer that you'd be prepared to stay where you are for the next 40 years, then that's fine. But if it's not, then you're not going to be a very happy bunny in 40 years time, when you find that you're still in the same place.

It's only you that can change that though.

And here's the real thing. You CAN. The barriers in front of you are never insurmountable.
Difficult, maybe, but is difficult a good enough reason to give up the rest of your life?
