Spoiling-your-ballot day.

Election day has arrived. Go ye.
Vote ye.
And if you can't bring yourself to mark an X by the party that sucks the least, at least exercise your democratic right to spoil your ballot paper.

I'm somewhat serious about that too - not turning out to express an opinion one way or another, means you - rightly or wrongly - get lumped in with the other schmucks who don't actually care who's in power next.

If you want one, make the X.
If you want none, spoil the ballot.

But please don't opt out entirely - even if you don't like how it works, not turning out gets your opinion discarded as 'voter apathy', where turning up and abstaining doesn't.

Don't spoil your ballot paper - far better to soil it. Give them a box of soiled papers to count.

Please don't do this - the people who have to actually touch the papers are poor innocent Council employees who have nothing to do with the political process other than administering the mechanics of it.

Politicians aren't allowed to touch the ballot papers (although they will generally be there watching the count, and read spoiled ballots) so you will only hurt people who are doing an important civil duty in an impartial manner at an unsociable hour, not the politicians who you presumably object to...

Writing 'electoral reform please' across your ballot _will_ get seen by all the candidates (well, more likely their agents) because they all have to agree it's 'spoiled' not 'bad handwritinged'
