I am rather chuffed. Have just managed to row 10km in 40 minutes. That's like, a long standing target.
10,005m in fact, at resistance 10 (drag factor 190).
The rower reckoned that was a workload of 200W, or 1000kcal/hour.
My heart rate monitor thought it was nearer 1200kcal/hour.

But whatever. That might be meaningless to you, but suffice to say I'm rather pleased at managing that. And this is, in fact, a bragging post. And for posterity.
And stuff.

Now, I have it on good advice from someone who knows better, that I need to go work on technique and pacing, rather than rowing flat out like a loony. Which is what I shall - the only reason I haven't yet, is because that rather arbitrary 10km beckoned.

Wow, that is seriously impressive. :)

Was it on a Concept 2? If so, you should seriously consider training for the British Indoor Rowing Championships, 'cos I bet your 2000m time would be not far off these guys':

Yeah, it was a Concept 2. Someone told me once that they were the only really 'good' rowers to use.
My 2000m time would be about 8m at that pace, but it's a slightly different sort of a thing when you're running for that sort of period of time.
I'm thinking that my next step will be to try and go for 2 and 5km sprint targets instead.
I'm just a bit concerned about the time vs. energy used overall.

Hmm, the January challenge seems to be the 'gut buster' which is indeed 10,000m. My time seems pretty good. Which is nice.

Yeah, I'd calculated 8 min too, which made me think you'd be a fair bit faster if you knew you only had 2k to do.

You could experiment with brief rests -- do 2k, rest for 2 min, do 2k, rest for 2 min, etc.

not as impressive, but

I managed 10:00.3 for 2000m - so close to breaking 10 minute
