If you were faced with someone thinking of becoming an MP, what sorts of things would you want to see from them in terms of a manifesto?

So far, I'm thinking in terms of:
Education
Health
Welfare
Taxation
Communications (internet/TV/etc.)
Transport
Environment
Foreign affairs
Defense
Immigration
Energy
Culture
Economy/Finance/business

Is there anything I've obviously missed, that you'd want to put to a prospective MP?

You have to have a message that instantly sparks recognition, that touches them deep inside. Independents get elected when they represent a single issue that appeals to the whole community i.e. Kidderminster Hospital, Anti-Corruption (Martin Bell).

Otherwise you're just another voice in the crowd.

Indeed. Independents have next to no chance without something like that. Still not entirely sure I even want to get into that game, but none the less, I thought I'd try and figure out some manner of basis for it.

I'm thinking anti-corruption (expenses) is something that will be making waves in the next general election. Councillor might be an alternative to look at too, but ... well, it's something i've been mulling over, and can start to think about even if I don't actually 'step in' this time around.

How about Freedom? Getting the government out of our lives and let us live as free people?

One thing that has been bothering me is the current goverment's eagerness to get disability benefit claimants back to work - which would be all very well, but not when there are so many perfectly healthy people on the dole. THAT should be dealt with FIRST.

Benefits, especially disability and low income benefits. Also freedom/personal rights re: policing, terrorism, identity proof and theft.

I'd also want to to see from your manifesto that you have a deep and broad understanding of politics and economics, that I would take for granted in a big party but not from an independent candidate.

Oh, and the criminal system, separate from the police, so stuff like prison policies.
