Am now back from Maelstrom.
Started out slow, and ... well, kinda ended slow.
Not that slow is bad exactly, it's just... slow.

I think for me the event just didn't hit critical mass - part of that was the weather, part of that the ... well, frankly the event organizers had a lot of problems with site logistics, which whilst they worked miracles, they were still... well working miracles to keep things going, not having a smooth and comfortable experience. None the less, I'm glad I went, and had a good time, if not necessarily the sock-rocking experience of previous events.

Welcome back.

How much time did you spend sober?!

Well, there's degrees of sober. My 30th was spent very merry, but the rest was a little more sedate. So... beer flowing freely, rather than actively drunk, if you appreciate the distinction.

Well, at least until the Sunday night, because driving the next day was necessary :)

Your report seems at odds with those from [livejournal.com profile] malal and [livejournal.com profile] huwjones - who were very positive. Do you know why you found it a less enjoyable day?

In all fairness, how Awesome I found it had little to do with the event itself. The event might have been good, might have been less good. It was kinda irrelevant on How Great the weekend was.... ;-)

Might it have been slow for certain groups, fast for others?
My Lyzar-based group ended up rushing around for most of the event and probably didn't have enough time to get everything done.

I think the not great weather inherent to Easter time along with the extra day in the elements makes for a not great start to the event and unless it's awesome in other ways it may seem to make it fail to deliver. At least this is my opinion of the Easter events I can remember.
