You can tell the students are back at uni.

Just by the sheer number of cyclists who appear to have been lobotomized, and had their brains replaced by that of a lemming.

Who feel the need to sucididally try and leap beneath the wheels of my car, as if a ton of metal trundling over their head will do them no harm whatsover.

Lights, when it's dark, and you're wearing black, are not optional.
It is unwise to swerve in front of a car, because you realise that's your turn, right there.
And bunny hopping off the pavement in to the road may look cool, but it's really not, if you haven't checked for large metalic objects coming towards you first.

Don't get me wrong, I've been a cyclist. I used to cycle a couple of miles to work, on a regular basis. So I know that it's horrible when it's raining and you're getting wet. And I know that acceleration, especially up hill, is effort.
And I know that getting a blast of air from a car passing too close is just not fun.

And so I try. I pay attention to cyclists, and I give them space, and I let them out and wait for them at crossings.

But seriously, road safety is rather like sex. You can get by doing it on your own, but it's far more satisfactory as mutual effort.

I've noticed a similar number of suicidal cyclists recently who seem to think that red lights are things that happen to other people.
Darwinism in action; time for a cull methinks.

Its the suicidal cyclists that go past you when you are stopped at red lights - with all your bright yellow, retroreflective, and lights - and grunt abuse at you because you are not riding in the same pillocky manner as them.
Sooner or later, one of them is going to get squashed in front of me.

Yep, me too. And quite frankly, whilst I shall probably first aid them and ring an ambulance, I will not have the slightest actual sympathy. Assholes like that make the roads unsafe for the rest of us on 2 wheels-no-engine.
