Networks and firewalls
Mar. 10th, 2004 10:05 amAt about lunchtime yesterday, stuff started going wrong. All my connections to MSN/ICQ etc. dropped. Over the course of the day, stuff got reported as 'not working'. WINS replication, a particular site that's really rather important for our site services to make purchase requests, and a few others.
Found out what happened this morning. Our Network Nazis decided that they'd load a new firewall rulebase with only 'corporate standard' services in it. OK, I guess that's their decision really, but the fact that the didn't see the need to tell anyone about it is the thing that _really_ pisses me off.
When we went down to enquire, we were told this. And informed that 'well stuff works OK from here'. (Which is true, because they're on a different subnet, so has different access controls).
Oh well, I guess that shows how much regard they hold for their server ops team.
And of course, it'd be petty and spiteful to de-prioritise stuff in the future. Not to say I'm not tempted though...
Edit: Can now MSN again. Which is nice. Still means we're going to have to go and troubleshoot tonnes of stuff.
