Well, I've got holiday plans lined up. End of this month, I shall be off to Whitby. And then the weekend after, I shall be off to Reykjavik. I've actually booked Wednesday to Wednesday, for a total of 2 and a bit weeks. The extra 5 days holiday I 'opted' for as a flexible benefit have been glorious.

Whitby shall be Thursday to Tuesday.
Reykjavik is going to be Thursday to Sunday. Which reminds me, need to book parking.

Both spent in the company of friends, albeit from different social circles, and so shall be fun.

Between the two, and on either side, I have a few days where I shall make a point of visting the gym.

A session of 'hard workout' followed by 'some time' doing sauna and pool and book, is really rather pleasant.

Managed to do this on both Saturday and Sunday today. 10km rowing is a good workout, but I'm aiming to get my time down to 40 minutes or so, rather than the current 53. (Which I suppose is better than the 62 on Thursday, but...). I know I can for 'burst' periods do more than twice as fast as I average, so it gives me something to work on.

I'm interested in hearing CCP / White Wolf's plans for roleplaying in the EVE setting. From all the stuff I've read and you've said, EVE is a game that has high barriers to entry for a new player. It is not a game you can pick up and get an immediate reaction. You have to want to play, you have make to an effort to get involved.

The background of EVE is brutal, harsh and unforgiving which is in some respects similar to the World of Darkness. The key difference is that roleplayers are a social bunch who tend to ameliorate that. They are playing for the social interaction with combat, for many, a distant option. In EVE combat is the major part of the experience. You commented at the pub about the EVE forum thread on roleplaying, saying that people went out of their way to deny they were roleplaying a character/podpilot. Given the hardcore nature of the game / player base does EVE attract the type of player that doesn't want to roleplay?

When FASA produced the background books for the different houses in the Mechwarrior universe they were very popular. I believe the same cannot be said for the RPG. People liked the game because they got to play with big robots; They came for the big space opera but didn't stay for the individual arias.

I just wonder if CCP/WW are planning to do anything interesting and unusual to unite the online game/tabletop worlds. Are they trying to advance the medium or go for a fat profit? I'm fairly certain that it'll be a commercial success. I can forsee wave after wave of WW splat books being gobbled up by players who buy anything for the EVE world. It's what has kept Chaosium/Issaries afloat and yes I am guilty on that score.

Well, I suspect we'll see no more announcements before Fanfest. They like to save 'em up, and try and drop a real bombshell in the keynote. It has been noticable that Whitewolf have had an influence on the Chronicles (EVE short stories).

I believe they are planning to 'keep them both' but as I think I've mentioned, I suspect they'll not directly make a 'spaceships' roleplay game. Just maybe something cyberpunky set in the EVE universe, with the whole pod pilot thing going on as background and maybe the odd plot hook.
