Let me make one thing, perfectly clear.
I loathe and despise white chocolate. I consider it an abomination. It's like, chocolate, that isn't.

It's chocolate, that's had all the chocolate taken out of it. It's reason for it's existance is hard to figure out, but I can only imagine that someone used all their chocolate up one day, and came up with a brilliant marketing ploy. Give them some bland white goop, and do and emperors new clothes, and declare it 'white chocolate'.

I don't care how awesome you think it is, you're clearly deluded if you do, and therefore you opinion doesn't count. REAL chocolate every time. Dark is real chocolate. Milk chocolate is chocolate with a mixer. Either can be acceptable, in the right situation.

Just say no to white chocolate. Demand real chocolate instead.

Edit: Given we have an election probability event approaching, I think the 'ban white chocolate' party might actually be worth a try.

White chocolate is vile.

The darker the chocolate the better.

To a point, I agree. I really like the 70-75% cocoa solids chocolate. 85% is just a bit too much though. It's just a bit too much like eating spoonfuls of coffee. Dry, pungent and strong.

Have you ever managed to get hold of some genuine Belgian White Chocolate?

You used the words 'genuine' and 'white chocolate' in the same sentence. Clearly no such thing exists.

I used the words "Genuine Belgium" and "White chocolate" Ie have you eaten any white chocolate that is genuinely belgium

I's belgian, as in 'from belgium' :). But yes. Scores 'marginally less revoloting' than supermarket crap.

No, actually Belgium is made from white chocolate, it's a little known fact, and that is why Belgium can be regarded as vile.

Hell yes it's evil! Sickly sweet, fatty and vile.
I used to be a pastry chef and we got 5kg slabs of the stuff delivered to the restaurant I worked in - urgh!

Well, white chocolate is almost pure cocoa butter as it doesn't contain any solids, so yeah, fatty.

And this is why it's WRONG. Wrong I tell you.

Hmm.

I think I have an election manifesto. The 'ban white chocolate party'. We might be having an election in the UK soon, so that's perfect.

Can I join you?

However, I agree with someone else who said that the "real" white chocolate (Green&Black's for example) isn't too bad and can be used in baking or desserts to counteract dark chocolate a bit.

Incidentally, the icon is me melting some 72% choc for making mousse. :o)

My sister couldn't eat chocolate for years. Childhood trauma, caused her to gip at the thought. She has in recent years (she's 37) discovered she can eat white chocolate without being ill. Finally she can enjoy the pleasure she has been denied for around 30 years. I dont like the stuff myself, but I have to vote for its continued existence for my baby sister's sake.

Traumatised by chocolate? I feel for her. I spent ... a while ... 'allergic to chocolate' and thus only eating Carob. Whatever anyone says, Carob is NOT even remotely like chocolate. It's nasty and evil. Almost more nasty and evil than white chocolate.

But only almost.

You can actually get real white chocolate, with a nice amount of cocoa included ;)

How does that work? I thought the point of white chocolate was that it didn't contain cocoa solids...

It works... nicely, actually, but ask Green and Blacks for details :P It's spicier than normal chocolate, I thought.

It's ok if it's (a) the good quality kind that actually tastes a bit of chocolate and (b) only used decoratively on real chocolate.
It's almost always just evil, though, so that's how I voted.

Well, I won't throw away perfectly good chocolate (or cake) just because it has been sullied by the rampant spooging of a white chocolate enthusiast. But it makes me feel dirty.

White chocolate isn't really chocolate. It's sweet, creamy white gloopy stuff. If I want chocolate, I would never buy white chocolate. But if I want sweet, creamy gloopy stuff then I would buy it.

It's the same with Quorn. People try and pass it off as meat. It's not meat, and tastes nothing like meat. Which is why it provides a bit of variety now and then.

There are many such products. Variety in the marketplace is a good thing.

White Chocolate isn't chocolate, and never will be.
It's different. If I wanted some white creamy gloopy stuff, I'd go have a slice of lard or something. This rarely happens ;).

But then again, I don't like Quorn either, so... *shrug*.

I voted wtf. As I couldn't decide. :P

I hate it most of the time. But in some cases (Millies cookies for example...) it's really really nice...

Same with apples and applie pies/muffins... Hate apples - except in certain situations...

Plus, Ian likes Milky Bars, so...

Voting based on your husband's preferences just seems a little perverse.

But most people voted No ;)

So it is not evil, just different and enjoyable in its own special way.

No, this poll wasn't about whether white chocolate was bad and wrong enough to need a new word for it. The new word, of course, being 'badong'.

However, I now know how many sick twisted deviants I know. This is always useful information.

I delcare that I am a sick and evil deviant by adding my support to the continued maunfacture of white chocolate, however I can't tell you the last time I had some because I prefer milk chocolate by a long way. Think of it like chocolate with so much milk and cream that there's no more space for any choco solids or "chocolate" as you put it. It's a bit like what a latte is to coffee but that's a different discussion entirely. Hurrah for culinery deviancy, I say!

White chocolate has it's place in the scheme of things. Coating Thornton's Sicilian lemon mousse for example. Also as drinking chocolate but you need to get the right stuff.

Personally I'm a milk chocolate nut but understand the need for all kinds of chocolate. The wife can have the high cocoa stuff and it keeps me in one piece when I need to duck & cover.

Setting up a political party for bannination never goes well. Just don't. Or I shall have to don my cloak, hat and V-mask and beat you to death with paired white Toblerone.

As an act of evilness, I remind the assembled throng of the existence of pink chocolate. Something so vile that I'd happily eat white chocolate to rid myself of the taste.
