Transformers

Transformers is cool.
Giant robot movie.

Some stuff that transforms, and some rather cool fight sequences.

Enough backplot to tell everyone what's going on, who've never heard of transformers. I understand from ehrine's ranting (repeatedly) that it's a deviation from the 'original' plot, but I don't care.

I think this is a film that delivers, with just enough of a mix of comedy and action to make it a very solid film.

Some bits of camera work annoyed a little - I mean, blur-splode-blur action sequences just annoy me. And too many spinny bits on the robots. Otherwise, cool. Although I believe our first comment about the film was 'well, that guy's either dead in 5 minutes, or a hero'.

A few liberties taken with what makes/models they were, but none that were overly jarring. (I understand VW just said 'NO' which is why you get a different bumblebee, but I don't think it's any the worse for that).

To be fair, my rant was mostly that they threw the original concepts/origins right out the door in the first 5 minutes. Get the heresy out in the open, then get on with the movie. All in all, rather cool and fun and the heresy was fine given that it worked well as a film :)

"Cool" doesn't do it justice! I saw it a couple of weeks ago and it just proved that inside every grown man still beats the heart of a 10 year-old boy. About 30 minutes in I was bouncing up and down going "OMG, OMG, it's Optimus!!!1".
I loved the end narration too; very uplifting. :)

I went in with low expectations and was proved criminally wrong. My only beef with it was that there was no character development of the Decepticons. The great thing about the cartoon was the constant friction between Megatron and Starscream - with Soundwave playing them off against each other.
