Centralised Computing
Systems Administrator - UNIX
A vacancy has arisen for a Systems Administrator - UNIX within the Centralised Computing Stream of the ITC. The successful candidate will be able to manage, administer and maintain the UK server farm, with the role being extremely customer focused and requiring liaison with other ALSTOM offices. Additional skills in Networking, project management, documentation & security are also sought. The role will be based in Rugby but some travel will be required.

Key areas of responsibility for this role will include: -
 Support and administer UNIX Server farm.
 Data storage & backup of Windows and UNIX systems.
 Installation of Servers and application.
 Provide 2nd and 3rd line support to the Application and Distributed computing stream.
 Network support including networking aspects of the IT systems.
 Understand IT security aspects related to clients, servers and stand-alone units.
 Licensing, versioning & implementation of commercial software
 Administration of VMWare server.
 Routine housekeeping and reporting for the smooth running of the Datacentre.

The successful applicant will be an excellent technical problem solver embracing a wide range of technologies, able to work under pressure and willing to work outside of normal hours at short notice. Significant experience of UNIX SUN Solaris administration is required, whilst a working knowledge of other UNIX (AIX, HP-UX , LINUX) and Windows operating system would be an advantage.

Candidates should be qualified to degree level and have experience of working in a data centre environment. In addition, applicants should have knowledge of some of the following: TCP/IP, DNS/NIS, whilst some insight of Database management would be an advantage. The successful applicant will also possess good verbal and written communication skills and is used to working in a customer facing environment.
