Well, this weekend was a stag weekend for a friend from 'down south'.
Friday was Newquay, check in and go out drinking. The hotel was ... shall we 'adequate' and leave it at that. I get the impression that they support a lot of stag weekends. The coffee was depressingly bad, as was the breakfast, but they did have a reasonable bar.

Out around the town on friday, all to the good.

Saturday was surfing lessons. Now, I've been in training, and can swim a mile non stop, so I figured it couldn't be _that_ bad.
Oh my, how wrong I was. Surfing is lots of fun. As you catch that wave, and glide all the way in. And after a little practice, you start trying to stand up on the board. This was somewhat less successful, and involved lots of falling off, but it was all kinda fun.

However, it's got to be one of the most exhausting things I've done in a long time. First, you push out to sea to chest depth, with the waves (suitable for surfing let's not forget) trying to knock you over. 1 step forward, 2 steps back. Then you ride back in, in a depressingly short amount of time. (And maybe fall off) and then you go all the way back out again, to do it again.

I have muscles that I never knew I had protesting such abuse.

To top it off, I discovered that a wetsuit is good at protecting the bits it covers from sunburn. Every other part of the body on the other hand, is a) exposed, and b) pretty hard to keep covered in suncream.

Sadly, having done that all day, the night out on the piss was cut short due to fatigue. We did make it to a nice mexican restaurant, and then onwards to a couple of bars for drinks. By this time it was starting to rain a bit, and well, the groom wasn't _really_ dressed for the weather :).

(Apologies if it's a bit broken, I can't actually view that URL from work, so I'll fix when I get home)

After finding new and interesting ways of inducing pain in ourselves, clearly the right course of action was to go paintballing on Sunday.
It's kinda good fun, but it sort of confirmed my preference for airsoft - ranges are just too short for 'real' tactics to happen, so it's a bit more of a deathmatch than a tactical game. Fun just the same, but at 6p per shot, gets expensive fast.

Drove the 5 hours back home, stopping several times for coffee. Got home, zonked out, watched Pushing Tin, and then slept.

A good weekend I feel, but I'm sore today.

I love Pushing Tin! And after reading your description of the surfing lessons, I can see now why surfers have such great physiques.
