Not understanding stuff is fine. There is no way you will ever understand everything there is to understand.

In part, that's why I have a job. It's so _I_ understand this 'IT Stuff'. I know how it works, and I know how it meshes together.

However, this being the case, you may wish to consider that when I say 'No' to your request, it's not simply because I'm being obstructive.

It might just be possibly because I don't trust you to mess with a global configuration for a critical application when YOU DON'T KNOW HOW IT WORKS.

You should just be blunt with him, you're good enough to survive any fallout.

Giving nice answers just leads him to believe you can be broken.

Ah - blessed are the geek, for they understand the consequences and know when to stand clear of the explosion.

.oO(Has always found the backup an effective tool from time to time... it's now at a point when I consider such teething troubles educational!)

make him sign away his soul taking all responsibility for any mess he may cause including hiring a contractor to fix it to your satisfaction, rather than making you do it, out of his own budget, should anything go wrong.

Have his boss witness. Voila...

oh... and make sure he was using blood.
