It's monday. I'm in work. Generally I dislike mondays, however this one seems to have a real shortage of (l)users about. Which means I can get Stuff done, like configuring the NAS, with some of the funky stuff I found out last week.
Which is nice.

Read the Da'vinci code over the weekend. Have to say I'm not especially impressed. It had a certain amount of pace, but I think this was mostly from the 'I have found the solution, read the next chapter to see what it is' style of writing.
The couple of lead characters were pretty two dimensional, which is ok I guess, given it's an 'action story'. The concept of the 'treasure hunt' was vaguely fun, but irritating in it's resolution. I mean, your 'grail' is the search for the bones of Mary Magdalen ... and so what? I mean, the story that she was Jesus missus, and they had children was 'known'. So the only thing the Priory were 'protecting' was the bloodline, and that's really a bit overkill.

Anyway, not overly impressed, and thus not inspired to read any more of his stuff. If I want puzzles to solve, there's the crosswords in the Times, and at least those don't involve some uber historical secrets that are beyond what a 'normal' person would get.

I've not read the Da'Vinci code so can't comment on it, but I have read Digital Fortress and found that to be a reasonable (while not briliant) read.

My mom's read others and says that his writing style is similar in all his books

It is similar but I think the DaVinci code is the worst. The film is pretty good and I think the story/plot is better suited to the big screen rather than a book so you'd be better off watching the film. Try "Angels and Demons" as I've read a bit of that and people who've read it say it's better than DaVinci code both in writing style and story/plot.
