I'm doing it again. I was going to keep a lid on the spamming of LJ.

Oh well. I know you happy bunnies will just think "Oh God, he's spouting bollocks again."

Creepy though. I've just seen today's BOFH. And it's about Coffee Machines. This scares me.

The nice people on the radio ran an article.
It was about IQ and EQ. The intelligence quotient, and the emotional quotient.
The theory is, that lots of people, in very differing walks of life have a high IQ. But in order to do really well in the world, you need a high EQ as well.

The idea is, quite simply, your ability to understand, recognise and control your emotions. They also point out that the happiest people, are those who are a) extraverted, and b) emotionally stable.

I think that kind of fits in with what I've observed. I think I'm happy. By my measure, I'm fairly successful. Got a job I enjoy, that pays well enough. Got a life that I enjoy, and people I get along well with. Never really had a relationship, but it's not something I've especially looked for. (Every now and then I think 'maybe' but I've never really been struck by anything I'd be able to call love).

Now, ok, being successful in life is a very intangible thing to measure. I mean, everyone has their own criteria. But by _my_ measure, I'm doing a better than a lot of people I know. Even some who did better than I did at Uni (This is assuming that a degree is a measure of intelligence - I got a 3rd. At the end of the day, I could make excuses, but they'd be exactly that). So surely there's got to be something more there? Something more than 'blind luck' at least...

But anyhow, I'm going off on one. The essence is, that in order to get on in the world, you've got to have a measure of intelligence. But you've also got to have a measure of perceptiveness.

And then it struck me. In D&D terms, it requires Wisdom and Intelligence (and maybe a measure of Charisma) to advance at a professional level.

There's 6 D&D stats.
Strength, being the ability to lift, carry, fight, climb that kind of thing.
Dexterity, being nimble, quick, agile.
Constitution, enduring, keeping going. In D&D, brings hitpoints, and resistance to poisons (like alchohol).
Intelligence, knowledge and learning. A mages stat, but also influences knowledge skills.
Wisdom, being about understanding and perceptiveness. The Cleric's primary stat, and used for things like spotting, listening and detecting deceit.
Charisma, a certain measure of physical beauty, but also about force of personality, how well you negotiate and communicate.

I used to think, that if I could have any high stat, it'd be intelligence. Now I'm starting to think that I'd choose to be wise.
So which would it be for you?

My strong stats? Intelligence and a little Charisma and Dexterity. I know masses of trivia but don't apply myself well, while I have good people skills. I'm not agile in the least, but have fantastic hand-eye co-ordination.

IQ or EQ

funily enough i use dto be heavily introverted.. mainly due to events in my life.. it wasn't till my early teans when i could escape my box that i started to have any discernable personality outside my house.

I can understand very well the emotional thing.. i mean most sociopaths are highly intelligent.. most leveling into Genius status.. but they're sociopaths.. they have no real emotional link to everyone else..

i don't belive a hig IQ make people better or worse.. its just another box the bigwigs like to put people into. so that they can feel happy and have a pier group..

First I thought my best would be con, but more likely is wisdom. I do not have a very deep knowledge in many subjects but what I do know I can apply fairly well. I have often surprised people with novel ways of doing things.

I would like to be much more dextrous, I can be fairly clumsy at times.

I think my strongest stat is Wisdom, I've got more common sense than intelligence, and I can be very perceptive most of the time.

I want more Charisma. I've got respectable Int and Wis, and body stats aren't _too_ important in life. Besides, I'd get better ones if I actually exercised and trained more... But I don't get on that well with people, and I don't have any real force of personality...

Ah, but in D&D terms, strength 18 is enough to lift 600lbs (270odd kilos) which is quite a feat in and of itself... I mean, that's like me under one arm, another me under the other arm, and a couple of sacks of potatos on your head.

Yeah, but when would an 18 in any physical stat actually be *usefull*, in a way that another, more acieveable but still good, stat wouldn't do just as well?

OK, I can see a case for Con, but....

18 Cha? Would be Bloody Great every time you speak to someone....
