Well, I have to say, Maelstrom was totally excellent.
The weather was hot, which lead to the entire campsite flaked out, and all the action happening at night. And oh my, what a riotous event.

This morning, I return to my usual deluge of emails, some of which actually are relevant. One about a backup failing over the weekend, in a rather 'we're upset' kind of way. So most of this morning has been spent analyzing that, and hopefully fixing it.

I have some conslutants in to do some more comissioning of SAN hardware, they're currently occupying my desk, so I've hopped over to a workmate's desk and stolen his PC (he's out for the day).

I've also had my weekly saunter to the tape vault and back, as the backup server ran out of tapes. Faintly annoying, since i had _hoped_ that someone else might bother in my absence, but .... well clearly not.

Thankfully, I managed to miss entirely a catastrophic server failure. "Ooops, no disks visible, and oops, no backup for the last month". It wasn't one of mine, and it was at a remote site, but when that kind of thing happens, it's pretty much all hands to the pump. The server's disks were transported to a data recovery firm over the weekend, who as ever were swift, efficient and expensive. But the server in question is now up and running properly, so ... money well spent (maybe?)

I was amazed that some workmates had managed to do a half decent job in my absence. Still had loads to do though.
