Workin' late
Jun. 14th, 2005 05:59 pmWorkin' late again.
And I was planning to go to the Gym tonight, too.
Ho hum.
This time, it's moving around 40Gb of disk image, so I can resize it.
Always seems to take forever to copy.
Problem is, the volume that this disk image is on, isn't large enough, so of course, I've had to map a new volume from the Symmetrix on to the server, and copy all the data across.
Nevermind, it's all more overtime (30 hours and counting :/, given I didn't make the June cut off date with the last batch.)
Earlier today, we had a network outage. This was unfortunate, as a collegue and I dashed down to the computer room to fix the problem. After some head scratching (everything looked fine, just 'wasn't working') the problem was identified.
A server had been moved from our build area to the computer room. It needed to be put onto a different network. So our network admin, queried the switch (it's a 6500. They're big, and allegedly fairly clever) to see which network port that machines's MAC address was visible on. However, because it'd recently been plugged in to our network, it reported that the port in question was our default gateway port.
When this port got changed to be on a different network, funnily enough, nothing could route from one side of our network to the other.
Ooops.
Thankfully, Friday is the all day barcrawl. For those who're not on the appropriate distribution lists, it's when a bunch of ex-warwick uni people, bimble from pub to pub in Cov. And drink beer, and expound rather preposterous theories about who'll be married next, and dropping sprog.
So on the offchance you've not heard about it, and feel like joining in, the approximate itinerary may be found: here
SINergy develops once more. We're looking at 'refreshing' a few things, not least of which being the ref team. There's a fairly drastic quantity of stuff that falls into the 'would be nice' category, but it all come down to a question of time and enthusiasm.
Oh well, I guess we shall see yet.
Maelstrom plotting also moves on apace. I'm starting to come up with ideas for that. Looks like I'll be relatively fit and agile by then. (Well, able to walk, and maybe shuffle quite fast from time to time). I'm thinking I'll be giving the crutches back to the hospital at the weekend, because i've been doing without them for nearly 2 weeks now.
Hmm, that turned into a bit more of a ramble than I intended. Oh well, I've been somewhat slacking on my LJ spamming duties lately anyway.
