Hours of work
Jan. 9th, 2004 01:19 pmIt seems there's a rumour that management are unhappy about the server team. Specifically, it's the fact that we all arrive at 8am or later, and some of our users start arriving at 7am.
So there's going to be a rota for early arrival. About 3 of us, so one week in 3 we should arrive early.
Now our T&Cs of employment have 'flexible start and finish'. Basically flexi time with core hours of 08:30 to 16:00 (standard hours of 08:00 to 16:30). Since two of us live a half hour -> 45 minute drive away, in Coventry (work is Alstom in Rugby, and at that time of day...)
So basically, what they're saying is that we can't exercise our contracted flexible start and finish like every other bugger.
In the words of Mahatma Gandhi: "Fuck 'em". There's no way I'm just going to let them alter my contract for the worse, without compensation.
Shift allowance'd do.
My real gripe is not so much early starts (although that sucks, because I do stuff during the week and so get to bed late enough that 7am is about the earliest I want to be moving), but the fact that I'll _also_ not be able to accrue flex time (like I currently do) and leave at 15:30 on a friday. That's _really_ useful for getting the weekend started pronto.
Oh well, maybe an alternative will present itself.
The other thought that jumps is that I dislike starting early, because I don't like _leaving_ early ('cept on fridays) because when I start something I like to finish. So they'd probably get free hours from me, cos I'm not a clock watcher.
Oh well, it's not a problem _this_ week, so it's a 15:30 finish, and off to the pub.
Peachy.
