Life with a broken leg. Day 1
Mar. 20th, 2005 08:51 amWell, it seems the swelling has gone down.
Which is kind of good.
But it does now mean that this 'somewhat firm wrapping' I've got on it, doesn't keep it in one place.
So overnight, I got to define new and interesting meanings of the word 'pain' as I shifted in my sleep, and had the lovely feeling of bone grating.
Cocodamol is very nice though. There's a delightful pleasure in the 'painpainpainpainpain ahhh no pain' experience.
I'm starting to realise just how complicated certain operations become with a leg that doesn't work properly.
Going to the toilet is a lot more difficult, as is getting dressed.
I've still not quite figured out how to shower. I suspect that I'm just not going to, and have get clean the 'hard way'.
Although that said, a bath is probably the order of business there, it's just not something you can splash under for 10 minutes, and then be ready.
Oh well. Off to get a 'proper' plaster on today. I've no idea how long this will take. I'm hoping it'll be sufficiently solid that I can at least use it for a little bit of stability.
Last night I managed to get around just fine on crutches, but then discovered, gradually, just how tiring it was. The 'walk' from cinema to pizza hut near exhausted me. Thankfully there were helpful people about, one of which had a car.
Constantine is fairly good, more or less what I expected, and nicely done. The pizza was good too, unfortunately by that point the 6 or so hours sleep, combine with the new experience of walking everywhere on my arms was starting to catch up with me. Practice makes perfect. I'm glad I spent time building upper body strength at the gym now though.
