Stupid game
Feb. 14th, 2005 09:05 amOK, well, Monday again.
Not so bad today. Half term means clear roads and empty car parks.
Saturday
ehrine made me play EVE. I'm rather afraid that I'm going to have to kill him for that. Repeatedly. Well, once I've got my skills up and bought a titan.
(dammnit).
Think elite, with all the good bits from the later versions (missions, mining etc.) a few more things besides, a little less joystick, a little more point and click, and multiplayer online.
With skills. That train in real time, rather than game time. Which does mean I'm going to have to log on at about lunchtime to set a new skill training. The good news is that it does (just) work over VNC, so I can :)

Date: 2005-02-14 11:51 am (UTC)Train level 1/2 and maybe 3 whilst online (although 3 seems to take just about long enough that you can't really leave it overnight, but just a bit too long to do in an evening), and the leave 4/5 for when you log off... After all, it probably won't finish until tomorrow anyway.

Date: 2005-02-14 12:12 pm (UTC)And skill rank (not level, but rank) affects training time, as do learning skills, and it's all very complex... :P I just look at the training times...

Date: 2005-02-14 12:36 pm (UTC)You earn your primary stat + 1/2 your secondary stat skill points per minute. Well + the 'learning' bonus.
That's why the standard advice on training is get memory up, then int, then learning, and then the other stats.

Date: 2005-02-14 01:19 pm (UTC)I might try running it through a calculator at some point, but exponential curves with rate differences are just a pain. I think it actually depends on what your basics are beforehand - if you've got a carp memory, then train that really hard first etc.

Date: 2005-02-14 07:08 pm (UTC)Ideally, I'd get my hands on a free trial of both, play them, and then see which I prefer. EVE has the advantage of having loads of people I know play it, but the disadvantage of not being a type of game I'm that keen on....

Date: 2005-02-14 07:11 pm (UTC)Yeah, I'll get my hands on a trial of EVE from somewhere and see if it actually appeals to me with anything other than it's skill training. If it doesn't, I'll go off and play WoW, probably trying to going whatever guild Ian (Suki) is in, since he's the only person I know who plays it.
