OK, well, Monday again.
Not so bad today. Half term means clear roads and empty car parks.

Saturday [livejournal.com profile] ehrine made me play EVE. I'm rather afraid that I'm going to have to kill him for that. Repeatedly. Well, once I've got my skills up and bought a titan.

(dammnit).

Think elite, with all the good bits from the later versions (missions, mining etc.) a few more things besides, a little less joystick, a little more point and click, and multiplayer online.
With skills. That train in real time, rather than game time. Which does mean I'm going to have to log on at about lunchtime to set a new skill training. The good news is that it does (just) work over VNC, so I can :)

*pets the poor Ed* I set long skills (like lvl 4 learning skills) over work time & sleep time... And I want to go home and buy/play with a moa... First I need to learn the medium hybrid turret skill and a missile launcher skill, and go on a shopping spree... *looks happily at her 10.5mil ISK account*

And I'm sure I need to do other stuff... :D Need to join a corp...

Ah yeah. That seems to be the trick
Train level 1/2 and maybe 3 whilst online (although 3 seems to take just about long enough that you can't really leave it overnight, but just a bit too long to do in an evening), and the leave 4/5 for when you log off... After all, it probably won't finish until tomorrow anyway.

Also, you can stop training & switch between skills without losing SPs, so I had to leave for work with 4hrs left to train on a 3->4 learning skill... So I switched to a 1 day skill and'll finish the learning skill tonight... Well, once I've done the skills needed for combat in my Moa...

And skill rank (not level, but rank) affects training time, as do learning skills, and it's all very complex... :P I just look at the training times...

Skill training is easy.
You earn your primary stat + 1/2 your secondary stat skill points per minute. Well + the 'learning' bonus.

That's why the standard advice on training is get memory up, then int, then learning, and then the other stats.

Actually, I think the best trick is to alternate mem and int (level 1 mem, level 1 int, level 2 mem, etc) as that way you train the pair faster overall (as all the basic learning skills have mem primary and int secondary). Would need to test that theory at some point I guess.

Yes. I think mathematically, alternating int and mem till about 3, then learning to 3, And then alternating the 3 mem/int/learn up till 5.

I might try running it through a calculator at some point, but exponential curves with rate differences are just a pain. I think it actually depends on what your basics are beforehand - if you've got a carp memory, then train that really hard first etc.

You're both bastards!!!

:D

However, as I'm female and my parents are married I feel that definition is incorrect... :P

Female has nothing to do with it. A bastard child is merely one who's parents were not married. Gender _technically_ doesn't come into it.

However, since the both of you are responding, I just lost again due to a comment email.

However, my parents are married, so therefore I'm not a bastard. :P

strictly speaking they have had to have been married before you were born. So if this is true the statement is false.

and damn you all.

Well, it's (hopefully) not too long now until I've got my main computer working, and then I'll join in as well... Darn You! Darn You all to Heck!! :-P

*whistles innocently*

Or you could play WoW all on your lonesome & weird us out with things that happened in it... :P

But make sure someone sends you your two weeks free :)

That is suprisingly tempting.

Ideally, I'd get my hands on a free trial of both, play them, and then see which I prefer. EVE has the advantage of having loads of people I know play it, but the disadvantage of not being a type of game I'm that keen on....

*Doh* I hit the post reply, and _then_ think of something else to say...

Yeah, I'll get my hands on a trial of EVE from somewhere and see if it actually appeals to me with anything other than it's skill training. If it doesn't, I'll go off and play WoW, probably trying to going whatever guild Ian (Suki) is in, since he's the only person I know who plays it.

Well, if you liked elite... *shrug* not for everyone I know.

Elite never really appealed for some reason. *Shrug*

I'll give it a go, what do I have to lose? :-)

Lots of time.
Sleep.
Sanity.

Time? What's that? Sanity? Lost years ago! Sleep? OK, vaguely important, but I can set a skill training over that time.........

Somehow I figured out that my skill training for Analytical mind would be finished at 5 am. Guess what time I woke up...
