Well, now. Interesting days.

Today's 'news' is that Prince Harry went to a fancy dress party dressed as a Nazi. There was a real furore and fuss made.
Is it just me who thinks that that's a chronic over reaction, of people being offended on someone elses behalf?

[Poll #417813]

In other news, I now have an electric hair trimmer. I shall be experimenting with that tonight. So I may have to call in to work with 'bad hair' and arrive late as I go to the barbers for a 'fix'.

And also, I have been having a chat with a nice chap from a recruitment agency, who's spotted my LJ (Hello Fhamid!). We were having a bit of a chat about a 'prospect' at a small company called Merill Lynch. Which does kind of sound interesting. It'd be tough at the moment, because I've got a couple of things 'on the go' at the moment, which I really would like to see through. (VMWare, and certification, and a new SAN in march). This is leaving aside the relocating/commuting choices. Which whilst they're not out of the question, well, London can be a difficult move. It'd be a bit of a pity to disrupt Larping, although that's not guaranteed by any means.

We shall see yet. The current situation suits pretty well, but ... well the housing market is pretty brutal, and I am giving thought to buying somewhere.

Friday tomorrow. I'm on call unfortunately, so I shall be staring longingly at other people's pints at the beer engine. And I may be a little late, if I stop to go to the Gym.

Edit: Just thought though, worst case is I just have to refuse to remove my hat for a day or two...

You've missed the obvious poll choice of "Find amusment by leaping to spurious conclusions about their taste for S&M / Domination, etc...". ;-)

(Works for both poll choices).

Ah, but the purpose of the poll was to assess emotional reaction. I mean, taking the piss is pretty much a given at any party...

I went to a re-enactment event a while ago when a couple of people turned up as the Luft Coiffeur. They had Nazi style shirts with little scissor patches on them.

I don't have a problem with what harry did, but I can see that a lot of people would get very upset. It also depends on how you deal with traumatic incidents, if you are sufficiently removed then you can joke about it. Ever since I lost a couple of teeth to some drunken townie a few years back, the phrase "kick your teeth in" has a different feel to it. It is no longer as humorous as it once was.

When I was in Israel some years ago I went to a pub with some of the younger generation of my family. Their grandparents had been caught in the holocaust, yet they were telling jokes about it.

And yes it was I who voted for the comedy (sic) option in the poll.

Obligatory "Hey, home come there's nothing in this tour guide between 1939 and 1945?" joke. ("Nussing happent!! Effryone vas on Vacation!!)

Course, that's assuming you watch Family Guy. If you don't, I'll send you some rips via Post.

...also, being on call doesn't relegate you to whinging about not having a beer. You just can't have *several* :)

Being on call doesn't, no. But taking one's car to the pub, to allow for 'adequate' response times, does. (and yeah, the legal limit is '1 or 2' pints, but I've never been happy about mixing car priviledges and beer priviledges.)

If you are attended a party and someone turned as a troll what would your reaction be?

Probably a bit dim of him, if it'd been you or me, no-one would've batted an eyelid, but he's got to be a bit more careful in the position he's in. How did he fail to spot the press having a field day with that one?

Amusement is an emotion... :-)

That's not trolling. Trolling would be to declare that you think that he's right on, and has the right ideas, and you think the other wusses in the line to the throne should get out of the way so the 4th reich can begin.

I suspect he doesnt give a fuck, have you noticed how they have been keeping him out of the country recently in places which are at the arse end of nowhere? I get the the feeling he wants out of the royal family.

Personally I think it was a fairly bad decision on Harry's part for the costume. But it has stirred up the debate that the children who have been through school in the last 5 years seem to know pracically nothing about the holocaust but sketchy thoughts and ideas. Maybe it will be the catalyst to get History in schools to be improved.

One of the reasons tt would bother me a bit is due to the fact that im Jewish on my mothers side, and catholic on my fathers, and some not so distant relatives were killed in the holocaust... but tiz not for me to judge what someone wears at a party, if i was offended I would leave, if the party was at my house, I would ask them to leave out of respect for *heritage* and personal feelings... would I hold it against them, no, its an outfit, and being *just and outfit* I should get over it, yes, but reality is we are human, and we cant always control that type of emotion, just the same as if someone came dressed as a KKK member, it stands for bigotry and hate, and that Is something I wont have around me :)
