Electioneering
Nov. 3rd, 2004 11:18 amIt'd appear that there's an election going on in the states.
Who'd have thought it?
Ho hum.
Results are nearly all in. It's still too close to confirm a victory for either side though, with the margin of lead for candidates being less than the number of absentee and provisional ballots.
Thing is though, I've seen an _awful_ lot of Pro-Kerry stuff online. And very little Pro-Bush.
On The World Votes the rest of the world'd be backing Kerry by a huge margin (75% or so).
So I guess my question is, who're all these people voting the other way? Is it simply because my sample from the web is horribly biased (In the same way that a telephone poll conducted in the early days of telephone was wrong, because they only sampled a minority who had telephones)? Or is it because the Bush supporters are less vocal?
Maybe this means that the election isn't as bent as it might seem - after all, if you were going to be cheating, you'd at least fiddle the results enough so that you win conclusively.
Well, I await the final result with interest, if only because the way this goes is going to have major implications on the rest of the world. Even if the candidates are sufficiently similar that there's such a close race.

Date: 2004-11-03 03:32 am (UTC)I would wager its your sampling - I rarely believe what I read on the web ;)
Conservative voters are traditionally less vocal though than Liberal or Democratic voters in my experience. But then I live in the Great Midwest where we put our money where our mouth is as it were. We're less likely to spout rhetoric and more likely to just go and do what we want to do.
Happy Wednesday ;)

Date: 2004-11-03 08:50 am (UTC)Why, then it's a bit more obvious that you've fiddled the numbers, particulary in an election that was predicted to be as close as this one...
Cynical? Me? Never.... :-)

Date: 2004-11-03 12:55 pm (UTC)I think a lot of the people voting for Bush are middle-aged Bible belt Americans who squeal at their children whenever they click on a link because they don't know about the 'Back' button. Them and all the people who run patchwork quilting websites.
