Have now seen Resident Evil: Apocalypse, and Man on Fire.
Apocalypse is basically exactly what it says on the tin. Cute chicks (x2) with lots of guns, beating the shite out of vast numbers of zombies.
Got lots of guns, evil gribbly things, nasty uber-corp, and enough suspense and action to satisfy.
Plot's not perfect, but it's really not bad either. Well, once you forgo the somewhat hackneyed zombie-bio-mutant-outbreak story.
Man on Fire really wasn't what I expected.
I was expecting a half hour or so of 'building motive' followed by a kidnapping, followed by the remaining 90 minutes of 'black guy kicks arse'. Which is wasn't. Well, not exactly. There was a certain amount of black guy kicking arse, but said black guy wasn't as much of an extreme combat bunny as expected.
Not really a happy ending either, but that's not really a bad thing.

Date: 2004-10-10 11:16 am (UTC)Unfortunately, they've released very limited copies in the UK, so south of Sheffield, the only cinemas I've found which have it are Cardiff, Southampton and one of the central London.
No wireplay. No VFX combat. Just straight down and dirty.
And no love interest, or big happy ending.
