Mosquitos

This is really starting to drive me insane.
It seems the new house we've moved to is infested with mosquitos.
Every morning, I awaken to new bites, most of which itch like hell, but the odd few genuinely hurt. (and itch as well).

So what I really need is some suggestions on how to keep these lil' bloodsucking bastards OUT of my bed, ideally out of my room entirely.
I'll settle for 'repelling', but as this is War, I am also inclined to more extreme measures such as large scale electrocution and mingy mingy death. For the bugs anyway.

So please, any suggestions?

DDT!

Could you sprinkle a load of deet about?

I was having trouble with wasps over the weekend, I ended up killing about 6 of the things with various methods. Mainly with the old can of Lynx and a lighter. Sometimes with the gas from my air pistol.

Cinnamon incense, and cinnamon aromatherapy oil for your skin. They don't like cinnamon.

detonating a small nuclear device (say 5-10 KT)on the windowsill just before should do the trick, after you did this it would unlikely youd get bitten by a mosquito.

Unfortunately in six months you get 50' killer, mutant mosquitoes from the radiation... :-)

Stand near someone who tastes nicer to insects than you do.

Well, whilst that's a really marvelous idea, it does sortof require that
a) I find someone who's tastier to insects, and
b) find someone meeting criteria a) who's prepared to share my bed overnight.

I'm more likely to get hold of a nuke. But if I did, I could think of much more entertaining uses for it than using it to annhilitate mosquitos.

I'd have to go for the other kind of bloodsucking bastard - the Gov'mint.

Eat more garlic. Rig up a mosquito net above your bed (hook in the ceiling?) And that's all the short term practical I can think of off the top of my head. My deepest sympathies. I hate mozzies, but boy do they love me. :P

My grandparents got themselves one of those uv electric bug zapper things for christmas one year. whilst it did not stop the problem completely it was entertaining to watch and cut the problem down a lot.

Where are they coming from? Is there some form of nest nearby?

1) Get some muslin to put over the window with no gaps at the edges, or close it an hour before it gets dark.
2) Remove all standing water outside that can be removed
3) If you have a pond put a drop of oil on the top
4) Make yourself smell minty
5) If there is no standing water nearby consider the possibility that there may instead be FLEAS living in your mattress and eating you at night. This can be solved by vacuuming your mattress often, sprinkling it with flea powder and hitting it to make the flea powder go down to the bottom then rubbing all the flea powder off the top, and again making yourself smell minty.

I hadn't considered the possibility of it being fleas. This house is newly moved into.

That said, I'm fairly sure I've seen numerous small flying bugs that are distinctly mossie like.

An electric mosquito gasser seems to have solved the problem. Or maybe it was the rain. I'm not entirely sure.
