Film sequel meme
Mar. 22nd, 2004 07:58 pmI thought I'd have a go at creating a meme. (Not seen this one before, so I figured I'd try and get it going)
Pick a film you liked (for inspiration, there's always the IMDB)
You've been commissioned to do the screenplay, casting and production of a sequel. All rights issues are sorted, and your budget is HUGE.
It's down to a choice between you, and Yogi bear, who's planning to make pick-nick basket pr0n.
Not wanting to see this film defiled you take on the almighty task... (Think Terminator II, rather than Italian Job)
Who is/are the protagonist(s)?
Who do you cast in the key roles?
When in the timeline of this setting does your story come?
What story do you tell?
--
My attempt
Pick a film you liked? Blade Runner
Who is/are the protagonists? Gaff. The policeman who arrests Deckard right near the beginning, when he's at the sushi bar.
Who do you cast in key roles? Ideally the same guy again (Edward James Olmos) but otherwise, I dunno, some new talent?
When in the timeline does your story come? Before, but with a few flashes to bladerunner.
What story do you tell?
The story of Gaff. A somewhat gritty account of his life as a policeman. He and Deckard actually know each other fairly well, and that whole scene at the sushi bar was the both of them playing an old game.
They go some way back, and he was something of an old hand when Deckard had just got his badge. So they were partnered. We explore the world of Bladerunner from the point of view of an experienced 'man of the streets' instructing his new protege.
A little foreshadowing of the bladerunner plot.
Almost MiB in style - old guy, dab hand, with new recruit who's keen to blow the shit out of anything that's in the way. The storyline ties up (ish) with a replicant who's mister nasty, that inspires Deckard to become a Bladerunner.
As for actual plot, hrm, well, I figure something 'classic' from a cyberpunky story line. Maybe have someone stealing/bootlegging replicant technology and upping the stakes in a street war.
