Bupa Wellness medical thingummy
Apr. 22nd, 2009 06:26 pmWell, work were paying, so I went to an 'advanced wellness medical' thingy today, with Bupa.
I was actually quite pleased with the results - I'm overweight by a large margin (it's a shock), but otherwise actually in quite good shape - all the other 'bad stuff' type indicators, related to general health are actually very good indeed - seems like the regular exercise has paid off - in most areas I was 'average' to 'good', which ... well, is for an average bloke of my age, who isn't also 30kg overweight.
Identified a few things to be going on with - I now have an Fitbug and quite a lot of pretty pictures of ECGs, airflows, and stuff like that which satisfy my inner geek.
And have picked up on a few things that I can work on going forward (above and beyond the hopelessly and uselessly generic 'exercise more', which ... well, frankly I've been working on it for like, ages now and failing dismally, so it's not been quite right). Specificallly, it seems I've actually been exercising too hard at the gym, for what I'm trying to accomplish - that's why my fitness is scoring very well, but why I'm not actually losing much weight.
Well, anyway. Figuring out the logistics of adding more 'moderate' activity into my day is the next task - sadly walking/cycling to work have some problems with viability, related to ... well, being a suit, changing/shower facilities and shuffling around laptop and gym kit. Oh, and storing a bike if I go that route.
Walking... is also on the upper edge of the distance that's sensible - 4 miles - so I might have to consider bus half way or something.
