I liked that one.

OK, so, it was quite obvious that 'this be the master' from the point where the face of boe said 'you are not alone'. Didn't quite anticipate the introduction, but ... well I think it worked. About the only thing that irritated me a bit was the 'YANU' thing. Ugh, shoehorny. Not neeeded. I'm not entirely sure why they dug up jack again, but ... *shrug* it does allow for a convenient 'well, there's this weirdness, which is why the master lives'. But following on from human nature, it does provide a kinda really nice way to explain how the master survived the timelords.

Although I had kind of hoped that the doctor would have been revealed as the one that wiped the timelords out the timeline as the only way to beat the daleks or something.

*shrug*. Oh, and they've been doing a fairly good job of foreshadowing that one, too, haven't they?

But yes. More master. Really malevolent badguy. And it looks like the actor they picked has got 'it' and can carry it off.

The YANA thing blew.

The underlying episode plot was reasonable; but nothing special.

The master stuff was brilliantly done; I really liked the use of the concept introduced in Human Nature to pull it off. One thing though: according to earlier episodes of Doctor Who, The Master has used up all his regenerations and has to steal other bodies to live on now so how can he simply regenerate now?

Since the watch re-wrote his DNA or whatever, who's to say it didn't reset his regeneration counter (also a convenient way to allow the Doctor to go on for more series...)?

Derek Jacobi is a god. Going from tbe "bumbling professor" to the "evil bastard" at the metephorical flick of a switch like that was superbly acted.

I just thought that with the race having been wiped out the previous regeneration count didn't necessarily apply - maybe he gets (or now 'they get') all of them or something.

well he has just reconstructed his genetic code, so intheory he's started his life again..

my guess is they are now writing in the new order and writing out the old established stuff.

I always got the impression that the reason the Eccleston Doctor had so much guilt was that he knew he was the executor of the Time War.

Remember him saying - "I watched you all burn" to the 'last' Dalek found in the collectors cave in the first new season. When he killed them, he also cut away the Timelords.

There is a concept that somehow he used the doctors hand to regenerate as it was shown shrivelled in its tube.

Yeah, my memory was that he pretty much stated he did whatever it was that killed both sides in the time war, way back in Dalek.
