Well, today was at the Runcorn Datacentre.
Ex ICI building, just across from the power station (which I believe is an Alstom site).
Starting to get a bit better handle on what's what, and who's who.
As far as I can tell, I'm the first 'permenant' in the Storage team. (The others providing support are from the vendor). All well and good - this provides me with quite a lot of opportunity to get fingers in pies.
Met the 'Server Support' Team. They were quite clued up, which is always useful. They seemed keen on the idea of being on call (because they're not at the moment). Not entirely sure why, I've always thought it sucked, but hey ho, I suppose it helps with the bills.
I'm off down to another site down near Canary Wharf on thursday, to meet the Implementation team. Hopefully there will be an opportunity to get some feedback/input at that point - it always makes support much easier if you're able to influence design considerations. Not to mention that it's just additional interesting stuff.
I shall be back in Runcorn on Friday to 'get involved' with a switch replacement. Not sure how much is actually needed beyond watching, but it remains useful opportunities to get to know the collegues I'll be working with.
There seems to a rather convoluted chain of customer, vendor and supplier (us). It will start to make sense, I'm sure :).

Date: 2006-12-05 11:15 pm (UTC)There is a Barclays monolithic concrete structure with barbed wire and cameras on the same industrial estate as the C&G offices but I'm not 100% sure if it's related to what you're doing.
