Verdict? Cracked Cylinder head. Most likely. Would take engine dismantling or something to check. Their suggestion was take it somewhere to part exchange asap, and get a new car.
Oh well, am in pub tonight. I wounder how much of a headfuck an engine transplant is with a ford zetec?
Shall sound find out.
Good-ish news is that you shouldn't need to take the engine out to replace the head. And it should only be a couple of hours work by someone competent.
