PAYROLL ASSISTANT
(TEMPORARY POSITION)
RUGBY

A vacancy has arisen for a Payroll Assistant to join a small team providing payroll administrative services. The payroll function serves both ALSTOM Power Service UK (PSUK) and other ALSTOM functions. The business is currently undertaking a project to migrate its payroll to new software and the successful applicant will become fully immersed in this process. The position is a temporary one initially to cover the migration and is anticipated to be for a period of twelve months.

The main duties and responsibilities include:
 processing of weekly and monthly payrolls including general data input, starters, leavers, timesheets, pay reviews etc plus P45s, SMP, SPP, SAP, SSP, manual tax/NI calculation and administering all statutory payments and deductions
 reviewing and challenging payroll data supplied to ensure employees are paid accurately and on time in line with contracts
 costing of payrolls including journal preparation, input to SAP and control account reconciliations
 administration of payroll data records and data files for the pensions office
 liaising with businesses, finance and HR on payroll matters and co-ordinating data to and from payroll providers
 P11D’s and P35 yearm end requirements
 dealing with payroll queries and supporting the business including producing regular and ad-hoc management reports etc
 providing advice and undertaking research on payroll legislative matters
 supporting and contributing to new initiatives affecting payroll

Candidates should ideally be IPPM qualified; possess GCSE maths and English; be familiar with current payroll legislation; have a basic knowledge of financial and administration procedures; be a team player; have excellent IT abilities, utilising both payroll software and MS office applications; be proactive, confident and possess good communication and analytical skills. A knowledge of SAP and previous experience of payroll data migration would be an advantage.
