Keyboard layout is pretty nice, but I've just discovered it seems to be severely lacking a 'pipe' symbol. And a forward slash. These keys are apparantly just above 'carriage return' except on a UK keyboard, that key is #~ Which of course, makes stuff rather interesting. Do I switch to US, and have a load of stuff in the wrong place (I'm sorry, but " is shift-2 on _real_ keyboards) but get my |\ but have "@ and # in the wrong places.

Or do I just assume that it's on windows therefore it's for wordprocessing, not 'real' work (e.g. involving changing directory, or ... well almost any real unix command) and leave it as UK.

Decisions, decisions.

Isn't it to the left of z in the UK layout? The Euro-DasKeyboard has a physical key there, so it should work.

I would appear to have a double length shift-key.

Yep, I've got the 104.
Which is good, because I'd have to not use it otherwise, but is fine because I can get one with the right keyset.

Sigh, time to re-order.
(And curse thinkgeek for only stocking the one of them. I did check on the webshite, but didn't think to check on thinkgeek)

If there a funny key above return, then? In which case you've got a US-layout instead of a Euro layout- which you probably didn't want.

I had this problem before on one of my keyboards

Indeed. I remember checking on the website before ordering from ThinkGeek, but failed to notice that they didn't ask me which I'd prefer. (Because they only do US layout).

Grr.

Oh well, I'll use this one a while, e.g. until payday, and then buy a proper one if I still like it.

Personally I prefer the US layout, but make sure you map a key to £

A lot of the UNIX admin's I know end up using the US layout anyway for whatever reason.

(mac's use a pseudo US layout with @ above 2 and # being alt-3 so that keeps me happy... while this layout seemed ridiculous at first I have to say it now makes sense to me).

For a non-microswitch keyboard I find the Das Keyboard an excellent choice.... not quite as nice as the original model-m I used to use but it gets the job done.

I'm used to backslash and pipe being under my right little finger though. Above CR just seems so very wrong.

Am I the only one who is amused that in your desire to be poncy you managed to screw yourself over by not paying attention to the details?

The image of Ed trawling through his blank keyboard in search of an illusory character did cause a momentary smile...

Enthusiasm is no substitute for planning. I prove that to myself all too frequently :/

The real question is... does it have an Any key?

They're _all_ any keys.
