We're doing a backup replacement project.
In order to do this, I've done a report of the size of data we back up.
On 02/02/2006 is was 8.5Tb.
Today, it's 10.5Tb.
2Tb in a fortnight? Where the hell did that come from?

(And that's data not available storage)

Perhaps someone downloaded a pdf of the latest Wheel of Time book.

Has someone mailed a big distribution list with a 100 meg document instead putting a link in their email?

Or the other classic - you ask the business users not to overstack their inboxes and server allocations. They instantly panic and start storing copies of everything in every other server they can access, thus multiplying the capacity problems. Typically picking the biggest, most image intensive files first.
