Sandwiches

sobriqueHave you ever wondered why some pre packed sandwiches get lettuce/tomato/cucumber in them, and some don't?
If you go into tesco, and buy a 'roast beef' sandwich, it'll contain lettuce and tomato. Similarly a ham sandwich often will.
But a Ham, cheese and pickle won't. Neither will a sausage and egg.
I think it's to do with the word 'and'. If 'and' is used in the sandwich title, then that means "no implicit salad". If of course it's 'and cucumber' or similar, then you get cucumber (obviously) but that doesn't count as implicit salad.
Isn't it strange? The word 'and' acting as a selection criterion for whether it has salad or not?
Obviously most of this is out of memory, and so stands a good chance of being utterly wrong. But next time you're in a supermarket, just have a look, and see.
I'm now contemplating getting food. But I'm not convinced I can summon the enthusiasm to do so. This would be a paradox for one who was likely to starve to death. Thankfully, I'm not in such a risky situation.
