Why is it that it's always _so much_ easier to criticise, to complain, and to point out faults, than it is to actually fix the problem?

That strikes me as a fundamental problem with the world. That those that can, do, but those that can't feel the need to smash, complain, and otherwise degrade the whole thing.

Well, they do say that before trying to criticise someone you should first walk a mile in their shoes. And not just because then you're a mile away, and you've got their shoes.

I suspect I'm as bad at that as the next person. After all, it's easy to give opinions, and much harder to _actually do_ something.

Perhaps that's something that I shall try next year. Each time I catch myself doing something along those lines, to actually stop, think for a moment, and see if I can't do it better. And if I can't, proceed to STFU and let those that can, do.

Specifics I don't have, but have a vague feeling of having seen this scenario far too often in the last year.

But then, the person that can do the change sometimes can't see what the change should be, and if somebody tells them, will say "Aha" and do it. Or more often will say "oh go away" and get on with already doing it, but still, it's sometimes worth a shot especially if the change is something like "maybe you should turn off that gas cylinder valve before you do anything else".

Sometimes someone can't see what the change should be, this is true. But far more often, it's a case of the problem is already know, as is the solution, but don't/won't/can't to (for whatever reason).

Noticing an open gas valve is more likely to be from someone with a similar experience of what's involved, so in my opinion would count as 'trying before criticising'.
