The tape saga
Oct. 6th, 2005 09:37 amThis morning, I am greeted with this:
It means, that my backup processing has stopped, pending me giving it new tapes.
Which was how it was yesterday, and I have managed to squeeze a little further.
What this means, more or less, is no more backups until I get new tapes.
Which by best estimate is Friday/Monday. Friday is tolerable. Just. It means my backups are screwed (again) this evening, but the weekend monthly backups will work. Monday isn't. 5 days without a backup on one server is a problem, on an entire site it's a nightmare.
My only silver lining is _this_ one I couldn't have avoided.
The irony is, somewhere like eBuyer would have some for me next day.
And now I may have to go for a drive to buy some tapes, because I've been stalled for nearly two weeks.
I think as soon as I get this lot, I'll put in an order for another 50.
Then I might have a chance of getting it before I actually _need_ them.

Date: 2005-10-06 12:19 pm (UTC)We have 2 tapes/week on a four week cycle for OS and data. Daily incrementals followed by one full changed on Mondays and Fridays. Should really be done every day, but we do not have the tapes and cannot be bothered to change them every day.
