It seems my work on sunday caused problems. Well, perhaps 'caused' is not quite the right word, but 'triggered' might be closer.
Oh well. No one really needs to print anything anyway do they?
For those of a techie inclination, what I was doing sunday, was migrating a virtual server from one host to another. When moving, it notices that the MAC address of the card changed, and so decided that it had a 'new' network card. So kept the old configuration, and created a 'new' configuration, which it then configured with DHCP. Which included updating the addresses in DNS and WINS. Of course, I put it back as was, but the name servers had the 'wrong' entries.
Don't know what's changed lately. I've had a CV registered with job sites for a while, and I've had about 5 calls from recruitment agents
in the last month.
Oh well, I'm not _adverse_ to _considering_ the possibility. Although I'd need a big fat raise to consider working in London. I'm not entirely sure what a difference to cost of living it'd make. Except that it's quite a lot. Especially considering the relocate/commute choice.
I suppose if they started at 50 grand it'd be worth considering >:->.
Then again, I'm not actually tied into any commitments here. No family, no house, so relocating is easier for me that ... well it's ever been really.
A couple of years of the rat race may do me good. Or it may make me so stressed that I give up and go be a monk. Either way, I figure I probably win out. :)
Today also seems to have started off nice and sunny. And fresh. OK, so it was _cold_ - but having got the heating _more or less_ working reliably, it wasn't too bad.
Not much moisture in the air though, so not much of a frost. It's good to see daylight when hauling oneself out of bed.
There are the first few signs of the turning of the seasons. Spring is on it's way, and the first of the flowers are starting to bloom.
I must remember to get my watch sorted. It's an odd sort of thing - it's 24 hours, and displays sunrise, sunset and phases of the moon. Unfortunatly, it also seems to have crashed. The hour hand goes round, but the digital display seems to be stuck at 19:56:43 and of course, the sunrise/sunset thingy isn't working either. Unfortunately, getting the back off appears to be easier said than done. I guess I need to find one of those watch sellers on the market and get them to give it a whirl.
It _does_ seem that the UK has decided that it needs an FBI style police division. Sort of a 'country wide crimes' division. OK, so in the UK we don't have nearly the problems with different juristictions that the US has. I do think it's a good thing overall. I mean, there's some stuff (like internet crime for example) that just doesn't easily fit into a particular region. And so makes it easier to 'avoid' as being 'not their problem'.
It's to merge out of national crime sections, and won't to terrorism. The only problem I can see is that this might breed a 'them and us' attitude in the law enforcement community. One will be the 'elite' police, where all the smart arses go to get promoted.
It does, of course, mean that things like organised crime and money laundering will be in for more attention. All these people who are rude enough to commit crimes around the country.
Oh and hats off to
rollick for a superb piece of trolling. Truely, I'd imagine that few LJs garner as many entries as this one has managed.
And finally, to follow up on the 'religious' poll.
I'd probably seek to ask questions about how your beliefs make you feel, if I could find a good way to phrase it in a poll :)
