OK, I'm feeling a little worn out now.
Last night, I did a migration on two servers. One I configured, and started going to finish off this morning.
The other, had to be finished before 6am, so I stayed to see it through. It wasn't that much data, so it wasn't to be a problem.
Unfortunately, the person who 'owned' the server had decided that having 'Domain Admins' with permissions on 'his' data was a security risk. So basically, at 21:30, it stopped, having failed on about 50% of the data. So I had to start again. There was less to copy, but it was gone 23:00 before I left.
This morning, I rolled in a bit late, as I figure I'm allowed to sleep in when I'm working late, and my boss hasn't said anything about me doing so yet :). (Probably because of that inconvenient law that says 11 hours between finishing and starting again).
Realised I had 3 solaris servers to SAN attach, and the one I set going last night to finish, and got started.
In my muddle though, I managed to shut down the wrong server. Which was kinda unfortunate. I know exactly how - I had to alter disk allocations on one of the ones I _was_ scheduled to do, and another one (which I wasn't). Did the change, then logged in and shut them both down.
Doh.
I hate making mistakes like that - I can deal with the ones that I honestly didn't know, or I rebooted the server because it had the wrong label, but somehow it's frustrating when you hit a silly mistake, simply because you're feeling a little rushed, and a little tired, and aren't really thinking clearly.
Anyhow, I've had the 3 servers out of the rack, 3 LP 10000 HBAs installed, (one dual channel because it didn't have many PCI slots) and am now installing the drivers. And it's only just past lunchtime.
Oh, and my workmates have persuaded my boss that I shouldn't be working tonight, because there's a beer and curry night. Although the beer will be somewhat lacking, as it's in lutterworth, and there's no way I'm doing anything other than drive home.

Date: 2005-07-20 02:26 pm (UTC)There is the new version of Meeting Maker that I am having to install before the maintenance on the old version runs out at the end of the month. We do not have the cash for a new server to run some of it, so it is going on 3 P4 desktops.
To do this I need to figure out how to get SSL working with Apache Tomcat and hope that the extra load does not kill the machines. I find the documentation slightly annoying. The Quick Start section should, for my money, tell you enough to get a basic version running. It ends "tweak the config file as necessary" implying that it should then work and the tweaking is only cosmetic. The tweaking is completely necessary and you might as well read the whole how-to without the redundant "Quick Start"
I also have two new servers to play with. The most time consuming bit with new servers is naming the damm things. My manager is fairly fussy and likes biblical names. So after finding the wikki page about names of demons, the first machine is called Corson. A King of Hell :)
