Busy busy

Well, the order of today is about 3 different things at once, all of which urgent.
(As ever).

I have backups failing, which I _think_ are network related. I'm not sure though, as someone else has tha' powah to networkify, and I don't. (by which I mean, passwords for switches 'n' stuff. Actual specific knowledge, I'm less sure about)

I have other backups that need performance tweaking.
And still more backups that need investigating and fixing.

This would be about 3 weeks work.

I also have a couple more servers to SAN attach (and install OSes, etc.) another server to urgently do some stuff with, that wasn't on the original spec, but has since become urgent.

Oh, and about 400Gb of NAS storage to migrate to a new location.
That's the job for this weekend.

Which is nice.

Whirling doom

Do you ever get that feeling, that doom is whirling overhead? I do. Because this place has been 'in a bit of a state' for a while now. Nothing _specifically_ wrong, just damn near everyone busy. This means things start ... slipping. Falling behind. Not getting done.

And in systems admin, this means disasters waiting to happen. Just had my first - data recovery from 3 days ago. Filesystem hasn't been backed up for 5 days.

Unfortunate that.

Problem is, there's more 'things'. Not specifically backups, but stuff that has just slipped down to-do lists. Because 'it'll wait'. And wait, and wait, and wait, and the jump out on you on a really crappy day, and beat you with a stick, because you screwed up.

And you know you screwed up. Oh yes. You _didn't_ check that thing properly, and you went on holiday with not enough free tapes in your backup library.
Sometimes, shit just happens.

Other times, it gets built up until you get an explosion.

Lurgy

I seem to have picked up a lurgy.
Pizza, vitamin supplements and lemsip it is then.
Joy.
Well, I guess I'll have to see if I'll be making it in to work tomorrow :/
