Walking

Today, I walked without crutches.

It felt good.
It also hurt at the same time (well, a bit)

Funny how such a simple thing can feel like such an achievement.

Ok, it wasn't far, and it was with the support of some good boots, but it's been nearly 8 weeks since I last did. Crutches'll be coming with me for a while yet, but this is the road to recovery.

I've just had a discussion about 'possible' things in an IT sense.

Most things are possible. However the discussion usually goes:

User: <outlines ludicrous constraint>
Me: It's doable. It's non-trivial, but we could do it by <outlines high performance (e.g. expensive) technical solution to accomplish nearly impossible data transfer rates>
User: Ah, yes, that sounds good. What'll it cost.
Me: Well, you're going to need <rough rundown of high end techy toy shopping list> and of course, there'll be a few days development time to get it implemented and working correctly. So at a rough guess, that'll come to about <usefully large quantity of cash>
User: Ah. Hmm. Well, we might want to go for a cheaper option. What can I get for <infeasibly small budget given what they were wanting>?
Me: 2 pints of beer, a packet of crisps, and a bit of string with two tin cans attached. And I'll even throw in the derisive laughter at no extra cost. MWAHAHAHAHA!

From Chord.co.uk

"Most cables are directional, they sound better when connected in one direction than the other. As yet, we have found no way to establish the direction by measurement. During development of an interconnect or speaker cable, we establish direction through blind listening tests carried out by ourselves, retailers and hi-fi manufacturers. The results are remarkably consistent. "

So what, the electrons move down the bit of wire faster? Slower? Smooooother? And as [livejournal.com profile] feanelwa has just reminded me, even in the (unlikely) case that electrons do flow 'better' one direction, speaker signals are AC anyway.

Talk about expensive toys for tossers.

"Oh yah. I must have the soopahest top notch sound, don'tcha know, and so I bought some directional speaker cables. It's absoluuutley necessary, although it does take a very refined sense of hearing to appreciate it."

The Emperor definitely has a new suit.
